The ‘clone stamp tool’ in Photoshop software copies an area of an image onto
another area of image in order to remove unwanted elements; it metaphors
the recursion and circulating process of ‘worlding’ the image.The Microsoft
default wallpaper ‘Bliss’ was a photo on film taken by photographer Charles
O’Rear using a medium-format Mamiya RZ67, and its original film was sent in
person by airplane in order to deliver to Microsoft, digitizing as the most
popular default wallpaper, the material film went virus through multiple digital
screens, shining behind layering windows. The interference pattern in the sky,
whether it was a bird, an airplane, or a presence of an interference pattern on
‘a photograph of a photograph’ recorded the material reality of ‘copying’,
opening the threshold of the digital world and reality surface. The ‘clone stamp
tool’ is like the visualized version of the ‘recursivity’ (Hui,2019) of the
cybernetics system performs the mediation of the image itself. How are we
constantly beng involved in the inside ‘worlding’?
